Prekindergarten Program Information

Northwest ISD Pre-Kindergarten

Pre-Kindergarten registration for qualifying students is on-going at NISD campuses with Pre-K programs.

Families requesting tuition-based Pre-K need to sign-up
 on the wait list and are notified of enrollment opportunities as space becomes availaible. 

Northwest ISD offers state-funded and tuition-based Pre-Kindergarten for
 families that meet specific eligibility requirements.
Please read the qualifications for enrollment to see which program is the best fit for your family. 

 State-Funded Pre-K Program

  Northwest ISD offers free, 1/2 day Pre-Kindergarten for children who:

  • Will be four-years-old by September 1, 2019   and
  • Live within the Northwest ISD boundaries  and
  • Meet one or more of the following eligibility criteria:
    • Be unable to speak and comprehend the English language
    • Be educationally disadvantaged, which means a student eligible to participate in the national free or reduced-price lunch program
    • Be homeless, as defined by 42 United States Code (U.S.C.) Section 1143a, regardless of the residence of the child, of either parent of the child, or of the child's guardian or other person having lawful control of the child
    • Be the child of an active duty member of the armed forces of the United States, including the state military forces or a reserve component of the armed forces, who is ordered to active duty by proper authority;
    • Be the child of a member of the armed forces of the United States, including the state military forces or a reserve component of the armed forces, who was injured or killed while serving on active duty;
    • Be in, or have been in, the conservatorship of the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services (DFPS) following an adversary hearing held as provided by Section 262.201, Family Code;
    • Be the child of a person eligible for the Star of Texas Award as a peace officer (3106.002), firefighter (3106.003), or emergency medical first responder (3106.004).

    Children who qualify by the above guidelines are eligible to attend 1/2 day Pre-Kindergarten at no cost. Documentation is required for each area the family wishes to qualify. Families must qualify during campus document review in order to be placed in a class.     Tuition-Based Pre-Kindergarten 

    Northwest ISD offers tuition-based, 1/2 day Pre-Kindergarten for children who:

    • Will be four-years-old by September 1, 2019 and
    • Live within the Northwest ISD boundaries and
    • Do not meet the eligibility requirements for the state-funded Pre-K or Preschool Program for Children with Disabilities (PPCD) , which are offered at no cost.

    A limited number of tuition-based spots will be available at campuses with Pre-Kindergarten programs. Tuition-based placement is initially decided through the tuition-based lottery. The lottery will open at 7:00 a.m. Friday, February 8, 2019 and close at 6:00 p.m. Friday, March 8, 2019. The lottery drawing will take place the week of March 25th. Families will have results no later than 5:00 p.m. March 28th. Those not placed in the drawing will be placed on a waiting list in the order they are drawn. Open seats will be filled with the lottery waiting list as they come available.
