At their most recent board meeting, Northwest ISD’s trustees unanimously approved the administration’s recommendation to name Paige Cantrell as principal of Medlin Middle School, elevating the current assistant principal to the role. Ms. Cantrell replaces Dr. Eric Drewery, who last month was named the district’s director of human resources.

“The Northwest ISD administration is recommending Paige Cantrell as the principal of Medlin Middle School,” said Dr. Ryder Warren, superintendent of schools, at the June 12 meeting. “She has provided leadership to the staff and students as an assistant principal there, and I am confident the Medlin community will continue to benefit from her expertise as she leads the campus as principal.”

Ms. Cantrell has provided leadership at the campus since 2015, when she began her role as an assistant principal. She has previously served as an assistant principal at Northwest ISD’s Byron Nelson High School and was the ELA department chair at Tidwell Middle School. She has 19 years of teaching experience and 17 years of athletic coaching experience. Prior to joining Northwest ISD, Ms. Cantrell worked in Eagle-Mountain Saginaw ISD and Florence ISD, where she played an important role in developing and enhancing the AVID program (at Eagle-Mountain Saginaw ISD) and athletic department as the girls’ athletic director (at Florence ISD).

“I am so excited to continue to serve the community, students and staff at Medlin Middle School in this new leadership role,” Ms. Cantrell said. “I look forward to getting to know our caregivers on a deeper level by enhancing our school culture and partnering with staff to continue to provide our students the very best experience and opportunities we can at our campus.”

Ms. Cantrell received her master’s degree in education administration from Lamar University and a bachelor’s degree in history and education from West Texas State University. She is a member of the Texas Association of Secondary School Principals, where she serves as the Region XI assistant coordinator. She has been recognized as a Teacher of the Year nominee and Coach of the Year, as nominated by her peers for her positive influence among students and staff.

Ms. Cantrell’s role as principal of Medlin Middle School is effective immediately.
