Eaton, Northwest theatre programs earn Betty Buckley Awards nominations

Eaton and Northwest high schools have combined for 13 Betty Lynn Buckley Award nominations, one of the top honors in the area for high school plays and musicals.

With 11 nominations for its “My Fair Lady” musical, Eaton earned the most selections across all categories of any school. As a group, the school earned nominations for “My Fair Lady” in the best musical, excellence in costume design, excellence in scenic design, excellence in lighting design, excellence in sound design and best student orchestra categories.

Eaton also earned five nominations in individual acting awards: Vincent Harrill and Joe Rhoads for best male actor in a musical, Sarah Zimmerman for best female actor in a musical, and Lane Norris and Clark Jones for best male supporting actor in a musical.

Northwest earned two nominations in the prestigious awards, split between group and individual honors. For its “Peter and the Starchaser” performance, Northwest earned a best play nomination, and Naomi Calloway earned a nomination in the best female actor in a play category.

The Buckley Awards have honored top high school talent since 2000 and are named after Fort Worth resident and Tony Award-winning actress Betty Lynn Buckley. Potential nominees must first participate in performances to garner consideration. Winners of the awards are annually recognized at the Casa Mañana Theatre, located at 3101 W. Lancaster Ave. in Fort Worth.
