Northwest ISD educator Kaycee Bennett recently won the Marty Murrell Excellence in Education Award for her work teaching and assisting deafblind students and their teachers, representing the top honor in her profession in the region.

Ms. Bennett was presented the award at the Texas Symposium on DeafBlindness in Austin on Feb. 22, organized by the Texas School for the Blind & Visually Impaired. The organization annually presents the award to the “professional in education who has made a long-term commitment to excellence in education for Texas students who are deafblind.”

As an auditory impairment specialist, Ms. Bennett works with teachers and their students who are deafblind on a regular basis. She said her passion is creating better programming access and communication for these students and the staff supporting them.
