Northwest ISD has announced two administrative updates, effective at the conclusion of the 2018-19 school year: Dr. Rhett King transitioning to become the district’s new coordinator of student services, and Justin Vercher being named principal of Tidwell Middle School.

Dr. Rhett King, coordinator of student services

Dr. King brings more than 23 years of experience in education, leading both elementary and secondary students, including two years of international experience in education. His career in education began as a special education instructor, and he served as an educator in Grapevine-Colleyville, Lewisville and Dallas independent school districts. Currently, he is the principal at John M. Tidwell Middle School, the campus he has led since 2017.

He has served in other leadership positions, including as principal of Alvord High School, principal of Gainesville Middle School and an assistant principal at Northwest High School. Dr. King received his doctorate in educational leadership and master’s degree in K-12 leadership from Capella University. He received a bachelor’s degree in radio, television and film from the University of North Texas.

Justin Vercher, principal of Tidwell Middle School

Beginning with the 2019-20 school year, Mr. Vercher will serve as the principal of Tidwell Middle School. He has been the principal of O.A. Peterson Elementary School since 2017, and he joined Northwest ISD as the principal of Chisholm Trail Middle School in 2015.

He has 14 years of administrative experience in education, serving as a principal in Birdville ISD and Forney ISD as well as an assistant principal in Katy ISD. Mr. Vercher’s teaching experience includes kindergarten, first grade and physical education. Mr. Vercher holds a master’s degree in education management from the University of Houston and a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Sterling College. He is a member of the National Distinguished Principals State Selection Committee and the Principals’ Visioning Institute. He has served on numerous committees, including those focused on strategic planning and leadership design.

Northwest ISD administrators will begin the search for Mr. Vercher’s replacement as a new principal of Peterson Elementary School immediately.
