Update (1:15 p.m.): The following message is being sent to Northwest High School families:

The lockdown at Northwest High School has now been lifted as well as the lockout at Hatfield Elementary School, Gene Pike Middle School, Special Programs Center and NISD Administrative Offices. Police were investigating the validity of a threat a Northwest High School student made on a social media post. Any threat is taken very seriously as well as the safety of our students and staff. During the lockdown all students and staff were safe, and after further investigations, police found no weapon on campus.

We realize rumors may be circulating around the community and social media. Due to protection of involved parties and the federal privacy rights act, limited information can be shared regarding the discipline of other students. When situations such as a threat happen, the district will hold students accountable for their actions by using the Student Handbook and Code of Conduct.

We appreciate the swift action of police, our school resource officers, the behavior of our students during the lockdown, and the faculty and staff of all our central facility buildings, especially the staff at Northwest High School. Our safety and security procedures worked well today and students are safe. Please use this as a time to talk with your children about consequences for their actions. If you have any questions, please call our front office.
