Northwest High School’s Cooper McDonald earned a gold medal at the UIL Track & Field State Meet, while Byron Nelson’s Calvin Wiggins Jr. earned silver.

Cooper earned gold with a throw of 178 feet, 11 inches in the 5A boys discus throw, winning the state championship. This marked Cooper’s second consecutive year competing at the state meet. Notably, the Northwest junior’s brother won the same event at the state meet in 2017.

Calvin earned his silver medal in the 6A boys 200-meter dash, finishing with a time of 21.09 seconds. The Byron Nelson senior signed his letter of intent earlier this year to continue his academic career and play football at SMU.
