Northwest ISD has named John “Bobby” Morris as its new director of college and career readiness, placing the longtime district educator in a role that will help thousands of students prepare for their futures upon graduating.

Mr. Morris has spent the past 16 years at Northwest High School, with the past eight years in campus administration. He began his career with Northwest ISD as a classroom teacher in 2001, before moving up the ranks as a campus instructional trainer, assistant principal and associate principal. As associate principal, he has overseen campus advanced academics, dual credit courses, testing coordination, and similar college and career readiness programs.

In his new position, Mr. Morris will oversee district programs that prepare students for their post-graduation lives, including advanced placement and dual credit courses that can allow students to obtain college credit. His role also includes oversight of financial planning assistance for college, career planning assistance and course endorsement selection planning.

Mr. Morris said moving from Northwest High School is bittersweet, but he is eager to help a larger student population.

“It’s really tough to leave Northwest High School after so many years – with great students, great teachers and great leadership,” he said. “I know my new position will help me reach many more students across the entire district, however. I’m excited to begin helping prepare all of our students for success in whatever directions they want to go in life after graduating. My main priority is ensuring our district goal of students being prepared for the future is met.”

Mr. Morris has received numerous accolades in his time with Northwest ISD, including recently being named the Region 11 High School Assistant Principal of the Year for 2016-17. He was named Northwest ISD Secondary Teacher of the Year for 2007-08, and he has been recognized as a distinguished educator twice.

Prior to joining Northwest ISD, Mr. Morris was a teacher in Burleson ISD and a youth pastor at Praise Temple Assembly of God in Burleson.

Mr. Morris has a master’s degree in education administration from Grand Canyon University and a bachelor’s degree from Southwestern Assemblies of God University.
