Northwest ISD’s Academy of Business Management & Entrepreneurship, housed at Eaton High School, won 39 events at the recent DECA regional competition, sending them to the Texas DECA’s State Career Development Conference in February.

The total marks the second straight year the program has sent more than 30 students to the state DECA conference, where they compete in career-oriented events across marketing, finance, hospitality and management as well as related fields. DECA competitions are based on co-curricular education that is presented as an integral part of classroom instruction. Students must qualify for the state conference from earlier DECA district conferences; in the business academy’s case, the District 7 conference was held Jan. 14 at Haltom High School.

In addition to its competition winners, 11 academy students ran for positions as vice presidents for District 7, with two winning the district’s only positions.

Cathy Slagle, business instructor at the academy, leads the DECA team, serving as its advisor.

This year’s Texas DECA State Career Development Conference takes place from Feb. 20-22 in Dallas. For more information about the conference, click here.
