Byron Nelson and Eaton high schools represented Northwest ISD at the University Interscholastic League’s State Spirit Championships on Saturday, Jan. 13, earning a state title and third-place finish at the competition.

The Byron Nelson Bobcats won the 6A Division II band dance state championship, finishing first with a score of 55.900, just ahead of the Clemens High School Buffaloes from Schertz, who scored 55.333. Byron Nelson and Clemens were the only two schools to score 54 points or higher in the band dance competition. The Bobcats also advanced to the finals of the overall 6A Division II competition, where they finished seventh out of 64 squads.

The Eaton Eagles finished third in the overall 5A Division I finals category, earning bronze medals in the field of 65 squads. Eaton scored 79.85 points in the overall competition’s finals, behind the Cedar Park High School Timberwolves’ 83.65 points and Seguin High School Matadors’ 83.50 points.
