Chisholm Trail Middle School

Chisholm Trail Middle School has been named as one of just seven schools in the Texas Schools to Watch list, honoring the school’s commitments to academics and ensuring all students reach lofty achievement levels.

The Texas Schools to Watch program honors middle-level schools across the state based on four main criteria: academic excellence, responsiveness to the needs and interests of students, a commitment to all students, and strong organizational structures and processes. Schools are selected for three-year designations, at the end of which they can apply to be re-designated as a Texas School to Watch should they continue to fulfill the program’s requirements.

Chisholm Trail’s honor this year marks the third consecutive time it has received the distinction. The school was first named to the Texas Schools to Watch list in the program’s inaugural year in 2011, then it was re-designated in 2014. Only two other schools in the state have also been designated as Texas Schools to Watch three consecutive times.

The program is led by the Texas Middle School Association, which sends teams to observe classrooms; interview administrators, teachers, students and parents; and analyze achievement data, suspension rates, quality of lessons and student work. Schools named to the list are then used as models for their peers across the state.
