Highway construction workers will hold a controlled burn near the intersection of State Highway 114 and F.M. 156 from Tuesday, Feb. 14, to Friday, Feb. 17, as well as Monday, Feb. 20, to Friday, Feb. 24, near Northwest ISD’s central complex of schools. This burn will be maintained by trained professionals.

As part of the expansion of S.H. 114, the burn will take place within view of the Northwest High School practice fields, tennis courts and track. This burn is a regular part of S.H. 114 construction, as crews are clearing brush.

In addition to Northwest High School, the following schools may see smoke from the controlled fire: Pike Middle School, Hatfield Elementary School and Love Elementary School.

The following notice was provided by construction workers to the district in advance of the burn:

As permitted by the governing agencies of the Cities, County and State of Texas, we will conduct controlled outdoor burning of brush, limbs and trees at 10361 SH 114 in Justin, TX located at the southwest corner of SH 114 and FM 156 south of Justin and as shown in the image illustrated below. This controlled burn will be during daytime hours. We will attempt to control the smoke and the visible flames, but at times, they may be noticeable as will the smell of burning wood. Only clean scrub brush and trees will be burned, absolutely no trash will be burned. This burn will be constantly monitored at all times during the burn.
