Northwest ISD’s trustees unanimously approved the district administration’s recommendation to name Cynthia Webber as principal of Leo Adams Middle School, which is currently under construction, at their board meeting on May 22.

“It is my privilege and honor to recommend Cynthia Webber as the principal of Adams Middle School,” said Superintendent of Schools Ryder Warren, Ed.D. “She has been a strong leader in Northwest ISD. I am confident she is the right fit to lead our students and staff at our newest middle school campus.”

Mrs. Webber has served students and families in Northwest ISD since 2004 at Haslet, Prairie View, Roanoke and Thompson elementary schools. Her teaching experience spans pre-kindergarten to fourth grade. Additionally, she has worked as a STAR (Strategic Techniques for Academic Results) teacher and an ELL (English Language Learners) instructional support teacher for kindergarteners to high school seniors. She is currently principal of Haslet Elementary School, and she has previously served as an assistant principal at Byron Nelson High School.

“It is bittersweet to leave Haslet Elementary School, but I look forward to continue working with the Haslet community as principal of Adams Middle School,” Principal Webber said. “I am honored to be selected for this position. I look forward to the entire process of opening a new campus and cannot wait to collaborate with families, students and the community to build the Leo Adams Middle School culture where the best is expected for and from every student.”

Mrs. Webber will graduate with her doctorate in educational administration from Dallas Baptist University in 2018. She has a master’s degree in education from Texas Christian University and a bachelor’s degree in sociology from Rice University. Additionally, she was a member of the North Texas Regional Consortium Visioning Cohort, a group designed to move the education system into forward-thinking areas that prepares students for their futures.

Adams Middle School will be the district’s sixth middle school, serving sixth- through eighth-graders. The campus is expected to open in August 2018 and is located in far north Fort Worth, near Haslet, across the street from Northwest ISD’s Eaton High School and Schluter Elementary School. The campus, designed by PBK, will feature an interior courtyard, collaboration areas, turf fields, and athletic and fine arts wings. In December, the district celebrated a groundbreaking ceremony for the campus with PBK and Pogue Construction.

The campus is named after a man who was integral to the Northwest ISD community and the district’s founding. Leo Adams was a founding member on the Northwest ISD school board in 1949, the owner of Justin Lumber Company and a mayor in Justin. His daughter Jeannine Adams Eaton is married to Roy Eaton, who is the son of V.R. Eaton, the namesake of Northwest ISD’s third comprehensive high school, which is located nearby.

This fall, a committee of students and parents will collaborate to decide on the campus mascot and colors. Mrs. Webber will begin her new role as principal of Adams Middle School this summer, allowing a full year for planning and hiring for the new middle school. The search will begin immediately for a new principal of Haslet Elementary School.
