More than 1,000 Northwest ISD students in need received free school supplies as part of the district’s Back-to-School Fair in partnership with the United Way of Denton County on Aug. 13, the largest output the 4-year-old event has ever seen.

The event, held on Aug. 13, provided supplies and services to more than 800 children, with about 200 children receiving supplies in advance of the event. In addition to 1,000 students receiving supplies, 70 students received immunizations, 46 students received haircuts and 24 students received sports physicals. Haircuts were provided by students from the district’s Academy of Cosmetology at Shear Accelerated High School, known as the “Shears of Steele.”

As a result of generosity from its local community, Northwest ISD still has about 1,000 backpacks filled with supplies that will be provided to students in need during the course of the academic year.
