A train derailment will impact at least six Northwest ISD bus routes during the first day of school on Monday, Aug. 22, likely delaying some scheduled pick-up and drop-off times.

As a result of the derailment, traffic from the intersection of F.M. 1171 and U.S. Highway 377 is being rerouted to Interstate 35W. That change in route will last until about 8 p.m., according to the Roanoke Police Department. Because of the expected duration, dismissal and drop-off times are also expected to be delayed.

The impacted bus routes are as follows:

  • 803 – Byron Nelson High School
  • 672 – Medlin Middle School
  • 678 – Roanoke Elementary School
  • 662 – Byron Nelson High School
  • 702 – Beck Elementary School, Byron Nelson High School
  • 697 – Eaton High School (Dual Language, Academy)

Students and parents can monitor bus routes by downloading the Durham Bus Tracker app from the iPhone and Google Play (for Android smartphones) app stores.

Northwest ISD is working with the Roanoke Police Department regarding the traffic situation and will update parents and guardians as needed. The district thanks parents and guardians for their patience and understanding.
