At their Feb. 12 school board meeting, Northwest ISD trustees approved the 2018-19 calendar as recommended by the District Education Improvement Council, a committee composed of parents, teachers and administrators.

“The DEIC reviewed and considered all feedback from the survey,” said Superintendent Ryder Warren, Ed.D. “I want to thank our community, caregivers and staff for the valuable insight they provided. It was strongly considered this year when planning our upcoming academic year.”

For two weeks, community members, staff and students had an opportunity to vote and provide feedback for the school calendar. From the 5,188 responses, the majority 2,629 voters, supported calendar Option No. 1, which is similar to this year’s calendar with 440-minute days, ending the semester on Thursday, Dec. 20, aligning with neighboring school districts in the area.

Based on feedback from the calendar survey, adjustments were made to Option 1 that include:

  • Adding an additional day off before Christmas (Dec. 21)
  • One early release day was eliminated (Oct. 12)
  • There is one early release day in December (Dec. 20) and two early release days in May to allow teachers time to complete grades (May 30 and 31)
