At their Monday, Dec. 4, special board meeting, trustees decided not to appoint someone to the school board's vacant seat, instead choosing to leave that seat empty until the results of a May election.

The school board currently has six members following the resignation of a trustee. According to state law, they had the option to continue either as a six-member board until an election would be held or they could appoint someone. State law does not allow school districts to call a special election for a resignation; instead, the district must hold an election at the regularly scheduled time in May.

Northwest ISD will provide additional information in the months leading up to the May election, including filing deadlines and information on requirements. When available, information will be posted on the election information page of the Board of Trustees website. Once elected, the new board member will fill the remainder of the Place 7 term, which ends in 2020.

For the rest of the meeting, trustees took part in their annual team-building workshop.
