Two companies created by students in Northwest ISD’s Academy of Business Management & Entrepreneurship are nominated for the Junior Achievement Company Program’s top national honor.

The business academy, housed at Eaton High School, has sent student-run companies CHAAO and Feel the Color to Washington D.C., to compete as national finalists for Company of the Year. Students who run the companies will attend the Junior Achievement National Student Leadership Summit until June 22 as part of their nomination experience.

CHAAO creates jewelry from recycled materials, with every piece serving as a one-of-a-kind result. Items such as sculptures and necklaces are created from recycled cans and other materials. Feel the Color creates fabric-based braille clothing tags for those with visual impairments. These tags’ soft structure have an advantage over competing products, which are typically metal and can irritate skin.

Northwest ISD’s nominations account for two of the 15 total companies nationwide that are competing for the Company of the Year title.

While in D.C., Feel the Color will also compete for the Delta Social Impact Award.
