Justin Vercher, a school leader with more than 15 years of experience as an administrator, has been named principal of Northwest ISD’s newest campus, Berkshire Elementary School.

Vercher, who is the current principal at Tidwell Middle School, will transition to his role at Berkshire at the end of the 2020-2021 school year. Berkshire Elementary School is scheduled to open in August.

“This is a position I’ve dreamed about for more than 20 years,” Vercher explains, describing his excitement to open a new school as the campus leader. “I have been blessed and honored to have many great opportunities to serve in Northwest ISD and throughout my career – both at the elementary school and middle school level.”

Vercher says he’s eager to take on this new opportunity but is committed to serving the Tidwell community until he begins this new chapter in his life as a Berkshire Bear. He shared the news in a letter to the parents and staff of Tidwell Middle School on Thursday.

“I am proud to say with your help and support, we have been able to provide our students with an excellent education, an opportunity to get involved in making a difference, as well as helping our students live up to our Titan Way motto… the right thing, the right way, all the time,” he wrote.

Vercher has served as principal at three Northwest ISD schools: Tidwell Middle School, Peterson Elementary School and Chisholm Trail Middle School, as well as posts in Birdville ISD, Forney ISD and Katy ISD. Vercher’s teaching experience includes kindergarten, first grade and physical education.

“Mr. Vercher’s ability to build relationships and create a culture of excellence will serve the Berkshire Elementary School community well,” says Superintendent Ryder Warren, Ed.D. “He understands the importance of instructional excellence, strong customer service, and leading with integrity.”

Berkshire Elementary School is Northwest ISD’s 20th elementary school, which was funded through the district’s 2017 bond program. Located just west of Highway 287 near Bonds Ranch Road in the northwest portion of the Berkshire development, the new campus is currently under construction and on schedule to open in August.

Attendance boundaries for the new school are expected to be established in February. The school is designed to serve 850 students in one of the fastest-growing areas of Northwest ISD. Berkshire Elementary is the district’s third elementary school to use the prototype design established with the opening of Lance Thompson Elementary School in 2019.

Vercher holds a master of science in education management from the University of Houston and a bachelor of science in elementary education from Sterling College. He is a member of the National Distinguished Principals State Selection Committee and the Principals’ Visioning Institute. He has been on numerous committees within his school districts which include strategic planning and leadership design.
