Graduating Seniors

Prior to Graduation

  • 9 am Seniors will meet in the Steele gym for graduation information and details.
  • Friday, May 28 is an Early Release Day and Seniors will dismiss from school at 12:30 pm
  • All Seniors at NHS PAC for Graduation Walk Through from 2:00 – 3:00 pm. You do not need your Cap and Gown.

Graduation

  • All Seniors report to the Black Box at the Northwest High School PAC by 6 pm.
  • Seniors need to dress appropriately, Cap/Tassel, Gown, and all Regalia.
  • Leave your phone and all personal items in your car; do not bring personal items to graduation.
  • PAC door will open for families/guests at 6:30 pm .
  • Graduation begins at 7 pm.
  • Graduation will be live-streamed on the district's YouTube channel.
  • Dress Code
    • Seniors must wear graduation regalia: gown, cap, tassel, Steele AHS approved honor cords and stoles.
    • We will have special Steele masks for students and staff to wear during graduation.
    • Students may not decorate the tops of the graduation caps, masks, and/or graduation regalia. They are to remain in original, new condition.
    • Seniors need to leave their phone and all other items in their car. We will have a place to hold your keys. All personal items must stay in your car.

Graduating Seniors

Prior to Graduation Day:

  • Follow all instructions from your school regarding paying fines, picking up your cap, gown and cords, etc.
  • Attend the graduation rehearsal at your campus.

Graduation Day, Tuesday, June 1:

  • Arrival: 8:30 a.m.
    • Students should report to the NISD Administration Building, 1.5 hours prior to the start time for their commencement ceremony to be lined up prior to graduation. 
    • Students should only bring their keys. (Phones, purses, etc. should be left in the car or with family members.)
    • Students should enter the Administration Building from the doors along Texan Drive.
  • Student Parking:
    • Student parking will be available near Hatfield Elementary, the NHS softball field, and the west parking lots at Northwest HS and Pike MS.
    • Student parking is shown in blue on this map.
  • Upon Arrival at the NISD Administration Building:
    • Masks will be provided to each graduate, faculty member, and volunteer upon entering the Administration Building. (Masks may be removed once you've exited the Administration Building.) 
    • Students will go through a metal detector before entering the PDC holding room. 
    • When you are in the holding room, you will receive a reading card with your name and seating number on it.  Please do not misplace this card.  This is the reading card that you will hand to the announcer.  Please fill out the back with your name and address.  Staff members will be on hand should you need a pencil or have any questions. 
    • You will put on your cap and gown once you have received your reading card. 
      You will then line up and listen for instructions from campus administration and other members of the staff.
    • You will not be allowed to return to the holding room once the ceremony concludes. Please leave all personal belongings, including cell phones, in your car or with a family member.
    • Graduates will be lined up as they will go into the Stadium and they will receive a bottle of water to carry with them into the Stadium. 
  • No Phones or Bags Allowed:
    Students are only allowed to carry their keys into the NISD Administration Building.
    • Phones, backpacks, purses, etc. are not allowed. Please leave these items in your car and/or with your family.
    • Your guests should be aware of the district’s clear bag policy.
    • Students are only allowed to carry the following into the NISD Stadium for graduation: keys, name card, and water bottle provided by NISD.
  • During the Ceremony:
    • Students will be seated on the field for the graduation ceremony.
      • Seats will be socially-distanced as much as possible.
      • Masks are optional.
    • At the designated time, graduates will proceed to the graduation ‘stage’ to receive their diploma when recognized by name.
      • Staff will be stationed appropriately to ensure proper social distancing and directions.
      • Stage guests and graduates will not shake hands, hug, or make any physical contact, but are encouraged to offer their congratulations to each graduate as they cross the stage. 
      • Graduates will cross the stage to receive their diploma cover.
      • Graduates will proceed to the photography tent for graduation photos.
      • Graduates will proceed to side tables to obtain their diploma and any additional materials to be distributed by staff. (If graduates have any outstanding fines, they will receive an invoice with instructions to clear their fines and receive their diploma at the home campus beginning June 2, 2021.)
  • After the Ceremony:
    • Graduates will remain at their seat until dismissed by staff in an organized manner off of the field.
    • Graduates will be expected to go directly to the parking lot or other area where they're meeting their family to begin their departure.
      • Family and other guests are expected to promptly exit the venue to meet their graduate and leave.
      • NISD is hosting three ceremonies on June 1st and will need all graduates, families and guests to leave the venue promptly for the next ceremony.
    • Graduates will not be allowed to congregate in any area of the venue before, during, or after the ceremony.
  • Prohibited Items:
    • Decorations on graduation caps. 
    • Firearms, knives, explosives or weapons of any kind.
    • Balloons, beach balls, silly string, bubbles, glitter, frisbees.
    • Confetti/confetti cannons/laser pointers.
    • Signs/banners.
    • Tripods/monopods/selfie sticks.
    • Artificial noisemakers (air horns, bullhorns, whistles, etc.).
    • Smoking and the use of chewing tobacco inside or outside the NISD Stadium.
    • Non-service animals
    • Radios 
    • Umbrellas that obstruct the view of other guests.
  • Attire:
    Graduates are highly encouraged to dress appropriately for summer weather. All clothing must be appropriate and in compliance with school dress code.
    • Male graduates should dress in casual attire with appropriate footwear. Casual dress includes a short-sleeve polo, or short sleeve button down shirt, paired with khaki pants or dress shorts.
    • No flip flops, slides, or slippers/house shoes allowed.
    • No denim allowed.
    • Female graduates should wear casual attire or a dress that's appropriate for the weather and occasion. This includes a summer dress, jumpsuit, or similar clothing. A flat shoe or sandal is appropriate. Heels are not recommended due to the amount of walking and being on the artificial turf.
    • No flip flops, slides, or slippers/house shoes allowed.
    • No denim allowed.

Ceremony Guests

Parents and Other Guests

Tickets are not required. Seating is general admission.

Gates Open: 90 minutes prior to graduation start time.

Entrance: Families and other guests may use the home or visitor gate to enter the NISD Stadium. Everyone, including parents and other guests, will walk through a metal detector at the gate prior to entering the Stadium. 

Prohibited Items: Please familiarize yourself with the list of prohibited items and the district's clear bag policy

Seating: Seating for graduation ceremonies at the NISD Stadium is all general admission, based on first come, first served basis. Guests are asked to be respectful of other guests when saving seats and to practice social distancing between families as much as possible.

Water: Bottled water will be available for $1 at the concession stands. (Cash Only)

Conclusion of the Event: Families and graduates are asked to vacate the NISD Stadium and parking lots as quickly as possible to allow NISD to accommodate graduates and families arriving for the next ceremony.
