Lyndsie Smith, the assistant principal at Granger Elementary School, was named principal of Nance Elementary School at Monday night’s school board meeting. Smith will begin transitioning to her new role this week, working alongside Principal Penny Bowles who retires at the end of June.

“I am looking forward to this incredible opportunity to serve the Nance community,” Smith says, who describes herself as a servant leader who believes in teams working together to achieve their goals. “I wholeheartedly believe it takes a village and that our schools have to work in partnership with our families to best support our students.”

Smith has a heart for teaching and leading, and she enthusiastically describes the joy of seeing a student succeed. “The glimmer in a kids’ eye when they understand something is the most fulfilling feeling. To see that excitement and fulfillment in a kid is something that we’ll work to achieve every day at Nance Elementary.”

“Lyndsie has been a long-time member of the NISD family, and she has excelled in her AP roles at Granger and Beck,” says Superintendent Ryder Warren. “I’m excited to see her working with this new community and know she will work hard to connect with all staff, students, and families at Nance.”

Smith has served Northwest ISD since 2005, working as an assistant principal for the past seven years and an elementary teacher for the first eight years. In addition, she has also served as an elementary GT specialist and a middle school coach. Prior to her work in Northwest ISD, she taught kindergarten in Irving ISD.

She earned her master’s degree in educational leadership from Concordia University and her bachelor’s degree in interdisciplinary studies: elementary education from Texas A&M University-Commerce. Smith holds a number of certifications, has led a number of professional development and training opportunities for staff, and has been a part of leadership teams that have won state and national awards.
